As we continue to make our way through the Advent season it’s a great time to reflect on the coming of Christ and its significance. Oftentimes this season can become overshadowed by events, shopping, work, travel, and other year end activities but as Christians it’s an opportunity for meaningful preparation, reflection, and praise.

In this post our advisors get to talk about some of their favorite causes they support as they praise God and connect this season of giving to the birth of Christ and its eternal impact.

One of the organizations Bekah and I support is Connected Families. Connected Families is an organization that helps parents to parent with confidence and lead their family with grace. The resources provided are biblically based and help parents get at the heart of their children rather than just aim to modify behavior.

Bekah and I went through their "Discipline that Connects" 8-week online course and learned not only a biblical framework for parenting, but also many practical parenting tips that we use often.

My wife and I love the various ministries that our church supports and we feel that our giving should start there. For this reason, we tithe to our church which, in turn, uses it not just to pay the staff and provide upkeep of the buildings, but supports several outreach ministries in the community.

Beyond our tithe, we like to support local Christian ministries that reach out to those in our community that may be struggling financially.  One of these is Second Mile.  Their mission is to “love thy neighbor” by meeting physical needs for food, shelter, and clothing while also equipping them to lead a responsible life in Christ.

We especially love how they cater to the working poor during the holidays by providing a Christmas toy store with unwrapped toys that have been donated by local churches. These toys can then be purchased at steep discounts of 50-80% off retail, so that parents who could not otherwise afford them, can get their children gifts for Christmas and keep their dignity as well.

There are a few organizations I derive a lot of benefit from during the year and realize that they are reaching an audience that I likely never will, but I can help to further their mission.

Proverbs31.org

I found this organization many years ago when I felt like I was being called to become a Proverbs 31 woman. My search was simply “Proverbs 31” and this organization showed up, with a daily devotion that spoke directly to my heart. It’s been more than 8 years and I still read their devotions daily.

Intouch.org

Someone was sharing this simple message on the gospel, and I wondered where they were coming from – until I stumbled upon them myself. In a similar way, it’s been more than 8 years, and these devotions have directly contributed to my daily walk with Jesus and maturing in my faith journey.

K-Love Radio

I stumbled upon this radio station, yes, 8 years ago. God desired to transform my life when I asked Him to lead, and He provided the resources through Christian music and devotions. This station is not supported by advertisements and is supported by generous donors.

It allows me to be confident about what both me and my daughter will be hearing in the car – and I realize has serves as a further blessing as I shuttle my daughter’s friends and they are hearing Christian music, where they may not have otherwise.

And, my local church and those around me who are in need.

We support The Kilgoris Project because it transforms the lives of children in rural Kenya by providing access to quality education, nutritious meals, and holistic community support.

Their work ensures that children, especially those in underserved communities, can dream beyond their circumstances. By building schools, equipping teachers, and fostering a nurturing learning environment, they empower children to achieve their full potential.

Their emphasis on sustainability and community collaboration ensures long-term impact, making every contribution a step toward brighter futures for these children. It’s inspiring to see lives genuinely changed through education and care.

Kilgoris is raising $100,000 to fund TKP's health and nutrition programs for 2025. With your support this December, they will:

  • Deliver breakfast and lunch every school day for every student

  • Provide clean water and sanitation facilities on all six campuses

  • Support 122+ families with meal kits and essential supplies

  • Give every student access to high-quality health care, including: annual wellness visits, sick visits, and complex care coordination, if needed

Many years ago, before having children of our own, my wife, Shannon, and I were asked to serve our Church as youth group leaders.  We did so for a number of years.  As we served these middle school and high school kids, we learned first hand how their lives could be shaped and impacted by people who love them, listen to them, enjoy spending time with them, and most importantly can share the Gospel with them.

We also learned how important it is for them to be in community with other kids their age who love the Lord.  Now that we have children of our own in these age groups, we really appreciate the support of Christ-centered organizations that are reaching children and young adults with the Gospel. Two such organizations that we enjoy supporting are Young Life and Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry.

Young Life

Young Life is a Christian ministry that reaches out to middle school, high school, and college students in all 50 of the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world with the mission of introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.

Salt ‘n Light

Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry provides Christ-centered events and resources that cultivate students’ faith and aid youth leaders in making disciples.  The ministry provides year-round programming through events, missions, retreats, and more. Utilizing powerful worship, self-developed drama and a dance ministry, Salt ‘n Light’s programming has been enriched and expanded to provide continuous ministry opportunities through all its events.

Evangelistic Organizations and Individuals

Lindsey and I try to financially support people and organizations that have a deliberate focus on furthering the gospel through evangelism and discipleship. The greatest thing we can share with others, only through the work of the Spirit, is the good news of the Gospel - the living water and bread of life.

A lot of time, this looks like giving to the local church specifically to contribute to our missionaries, or other mission programs through the church. This can also look like giving to missionaries which can happen in a number of ways: directly, through the church, or through sending ministries/organizations.

Local Needs

We additionally look out for needs in our community (often that our church is made aware of) to give directly to individuals/families who have a specific need. It is a great open door to present the gospel when you meet somebody's financial or physical need. We see this in 1 John 1:4 , "We love because he first loved us." Jesus generously gave up everything for us and we get to participate in that to show others that love.

Christian Relief Fund

My wife and I also have a tradition of supporting children that are similar ages to our kids, and we go through the Christian Relief Fund for that, because of the great way they integrate discipleship and evangelism alongside meeting physical needs of the children in the program.

When in doubt be sure to ask your church and missionaries of their biggest needs in order to see if you can support them in a specific way.

Donovan

My wife, Amy, and I love supporting causes and organizations that have a local and direct impact through meeting immediate, and often basic, human needs. This is often correlated with helping children and families in crisis. Through this response, meeting physical needs before spiritual needs, there is often a powerful opportunity to engage spiritually and share the Gospel.

Along with our church, we love supporting: the Global Orphan Project, CarePortal, and GOEX.

The Global Orphan Project

The Global Orphan Project cares for vulnerable children and families by providing localized care based on a community’s unique needs. They generally partner with local churches around the world to provide:

  • Prevention

    • Family strengthening initiatives to keep families together.

  • Care

    • Local, family style care to kids who need it most.

  • Transition

    • Equip kids with life skills to transition into adulthood.

CarePortal

CarePortal aims to take meaningful action through a platform that connects caring people who can meet the needs of kids and families in crisis.

We love using this platform. It’s more of a tool to direct immediate support (money, items, etc.) directly to those in need. So any contribution is going directly to those in need.

GOEX

GOEX empowers individuals and parents to break free from generational poverty through commerce by creating dignified, fair-wage, and sustainable jobs

Conclusion

We hope this Advent season is one that fills you with peace and joy as you reflect on God’s goodness through the gift of his son Christ. We encourage you to explore your generosity and what giving looks like for you in this season. The Spirit convicts, stirs, and invites us all in different ways so be sure to be open wherever you may be led (there’s so many great organizations and individuals out there doing amazing Kingdom work!).

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we’ll see you in 2025!

Peace be with you!

Hallelujah!
